Development aid
The Canton of Basel-Stadt makes an annual sum of CHF 1.65 million available for domestic and foreign development projects. A commission appointed by the Executive Council decides on requests for funding on a six-monthly basis. The financial contributions are designed to improve on a sustainable basis the development opportunities of the population in the poorest countries of the world or in particularly deprived regions. There are no geographical or topical restrictions for foreign projects. Within Switzerland, the contributions are used exclusively to benefit the population of needy municipalities or regions and disadvantaged population groups.
